Tribeca, short for “triangle below Canal”, is touted as one of the hottest neighborhoods in the downtown Manhattan area and borders the famous SoHo neighborhood.
Forbes recently ranked Tribeca as one of America's most expensive zip codes. Tribeca offers an attractive place to live for celebrities and affluent professionals in a neighborhood with world-famous restaurants and historic warehouse buildings which have been converted to multi-million dollar loft apartments.
Tribeca is also one of Manhattan's most charming neighborhoods and is characterized by large loft apartments  and quiet streets. One area of particular interest is around Independence Plaza, a high-rise apartment complex. Here one is offered a glimpse back into the past with its early 19th Century townhouses and its cobblestone streets. Surrounding the high-rise complex, are many red-brick houses. Though not original to the site, most of these red-brick houses were moved to their present sites in the early 1970s. Tribeca's eclectic nature is also evident in the newer developments that have been built in the neighborhood.
If you take a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood, you will find scenic views of New York City. Additionally, you will find fantastic restaurants, art galleries, and antique stores where you can pause along the way to dine or to shop. Franklin Street is one area of particular interest, one of Tribeca’s characteristic cobblestone streets that is lined with converted warehouses. If you choose to continue your walk and head south, just ten blocks away you can pay your respects at the World Trade Center site.
Another of the well-known attractions of the area is the Tribeca Grill which is owned by the actor, Robert DeNiro. If one frequents the Grill often or long enough, it is not unusual to see some well-known celebrities who frequent this famous restaurant.
